We are seeking experienced Day Support Workers to join the fantastic team who provide 24/7 care for our lovely client who lives at home with his family in Loughton, Essex. We are flexible in how the days/hours of the shifts are scheduled to ensure that the care package is provided.

Our client:

This is a wonderful opportunity to join a team to support Daniel, a delightful 10-year-old boy, who has complex needs including Cerebral Palsy (CP), seizures, Global Developmental Delay and associated learning difficulties. Daniel lives with his Mum, Dad and younger brother in an adapted house with a bespoke therapy space in Loughton, Essex.

Daniel loves to visit his family in Jamacia each year and it is helpful if candidates can offer the flexibility to accompany the Client on these holidays to provide the care he requires.

Daniel is not independently mobile and needs a wheelchair for mobility. Specialist equipment is in place including a hoist and other equipment to assist with safe movement around the family home. It is important that the care team are able to undertake the physically demanding but very rewarding role.

Daniel loves spending time with happy and outgoing people and makes sounds to communicate emotions. Daniel has a comprehensive therapy plan in place to ensure that he is continually developing and able to enjoy the world around him. The Support Worker will be required to implement aspects of the Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, as required, as well as working with the team to develop other communication methods to assist with this.

Shift Pattern for Day Care:

12:30 – 20:00 Monday to Friday (term time)

08:00 – 14:00, 14:00 – 20:00 or 08:00 – 20:00 Saturday and Sunday

08:00 – 14:00, 14:00 – 20:00 or 08:00 – 20:00 School Holidays

Hourly rates of Pay:

Monday to Friday £18

Saturday and Sunday £20

Bank Holidays 1.5 times usual hourly rate

The role:

The purpose of the role is to provide support to Daniel in his family home and in the local community, to ensure that he is safe, happy and thriving and to support Daniel in activities including water play.

The Support Worker is expected to work cooperatively with his parents and the Case Manager and his team of therapists to offer him the best opportunity to fulfil his potential. There may be times when Daniel's parents need to be away from the family home and at these times the Support Worker will be in sole care of Daniel.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in supporting children, young people or adults with disabilities.
  • Is fun, kind and interested in developing a great relationship with Daniel.
  • Is confident about working in the client's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of the parents.
  • Is an excellent communicator and good at keeping clear and accurate written records and maintaining confidentiality and privacy for the family.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Applicants applying for any day shifts must hold a full UK driving licence – essential
  • Experience of working with Mic-Key Buttons (PEG) – desirable
  • Experience of supporting children with Epilepsy – desirable
  • Excellent planning skills and ability to ‘risk assess' activities
  • Excellent spoken English in order to assist with Speech and Language therapy tasks
