Learning Support Assistant

Hours: 25 hrs a week (with the possibility of an increase of hours)

Starting: August 2024-June 2025

Salary: £24 an hour

Overall purpose

ASL is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work one-on-one with a student who has an EHCP. Appropriate training on supporting students with visual impairment (VI). VI training and induction will be provided.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working on a one-to-one basis with a student to support their educational goals
  • Working with classroom teachers to modify curricular materials
  • Collaborating with teaching staff, to ensure that the curriculum is adequately supporting the student's learning needs.
  • Pre-teaching key concepts and introducing new equipment as needed
  • Supporting executive functioning skills
  • Problem-solving issues around access to materials and technology
  • Regularly consult with the Director of Student Support Services, Learning Support team leader, and VI Teacher from the Local Authority to ensure adherence to EHCP
  • A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children

Desirable qualifications/experience:

  • Education to degree level preferred
  • Experience working in a school or other educational setting
  • Prior work with adolescents in a school
  • Prior experience as an LSA
  • Experience Using Google Suite, including docs, sheets, slides, and forms, particularly in developing visual presentations of data
  • Experience in cultural competency initiatives to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom, department, and workplace
