Proposal Engineer

My client, a manufacturer of materials handling equipment (OEM) for the dry bulk solids material and powders handling/processing industry, is a well-established global supplier of high-quality equipment to diverse industry sectors. The company works with world-renowned ‘blue chip' companies in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food, and aggregates sectors. We are seeking a Proposal Engineer to join our team based at our premises in Blaenavon. If you are customer-focused, solutions-oriented, and strive for excellence, this role could be a great fit for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Convert initial customer enquiries into accurately priced quotations detailing equipment specifications.
  • Review, analyse, and interpret customer specifications including construction drawings, bills of quantities, and project scopes.
  • Compile project cost estimates.
  • Handle technical and commercial queries while providing high-quality customer service.
  • Liaise with clients and new prospects, ranging from multi-national companies to local engineers, OEMs, and end-users.
  • Collaborate with colleagues both internally and globally to provide timely and accurate quotations.
  • Address technical and financial queries from clients and colleagues.
  • Ensure equipment is manufactured and supplied according to industry regulations and project specifications.
  • Engage in communications with customers before and after order placement.
  • Grow sales by dealing with new prospects and by up-selling and cross-selling other Group company products where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical engineering qualification or demonstrable experience in a similar role.
  • Good understanding of materials handling equipment from both technical and manufacturing aspects (e.g., screw conveyors, mixers, belt conveying, metering feeders, discharging aids).
  • Ability to interpret contract documentation both commercially and technically.
  • Experience working with different materials of construction (mild/carbon/stainless/aluminium/nonferrous).
  • Knowledge and experience of supplying equipment and solutions to the food and aggregates sectors.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to set high standards of work performance.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Positive outlook and ‘can do' approach to tasks.
