Avencia Consulting are partnered with a leading specialty insurer who are looking to recruit an Underwriting Support Assistant into their Social Welfare team in Leeds.

The opportunity:

It's an exciting time to join as the business grows. We have just moved into brand-new innovative offices in Leeds city centre right next to the train station, and we currently have a new opportunity for an Underwriting Support Assistantto join our highly respected team (3 days in the office / 2 days from home). The role sits within our renewals department handling a variety of interesting Social Welfare and Charity policies. Our risks range from foster care to drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres to schools for children with learning disabilities. The team is well respected in the industry, having built a strong reputation, of which we take great pride.

Working alongside other departments within the business you'll build relationships both internally and externally and deliver an exceptional service, keeping customers at the heart of all key decisions ensuring they receive the best outcome. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong commercial underwriting experience who wants to work in a forward thinking, global business with a real people first approach.

What you'll being doing:

  • Providing and maintaining a high standard of technical underwriting support to the social welfare renewals team
  • Accurate and timely input of data into relevant underwriting systems
  • Liaising with brokers as and when required
  • Helping to build and maintain strong working relationships within the team and the wider business
  • Requesting and reviewing survey reports and issuing risk requirements to brokers
  • Managing diary items and chasing up responses
  • Following up outstanding renewal information with brokers via phone and email
  • Deal with internal and external enquiries by email and telephone
  • Assisting the team and wider business with ad hoc projects

Our must-haves:

  • Have good written and spoken communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Be computer literate and have the ability to develop a full understanding and capability of using our in-house and systems
  • Have good numerical and analytical ability and have achieved grade A-C in Maths GCSE or equivalent preferably
  • Be willing to study for CII qualifications - you will be supported and fully funded in the study for this qualification by the company
