One to one support assistant

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate One-to-One SEND Support Assistant. The successful candidate will work closely with a specific student with special educational needs, providing them with personalised support to enhance their educational experience and promote their overall well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support and assistance to a student with special educational needs, ensuring their safety, comfort, and engagement in classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement personalised education plans and strategies tailored to the student's specific needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans and monitor the student's progress, documenting observations and feedback.
  • Support the student with academic tasks, including reading, writing, maths, and other subject areas as required.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social interaction, independence, and confidence-building activities.
  • Encourage the student's participation in extracurricular activities, field trips, and school events, providing necessary assistance and accommodations.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, as required, such as toileting, feeding, and mobility support.
  • Maintain accurate records of the student's progress, achievements, and any incidents, following school policies and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to special educational needs.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Empathy, patience, and understanding when supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge of different special educational needs and an understanding of various strategies to support students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment.
  • Basic understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Education, Health and Care Plan process and safeguarding guidelines.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in education.
  • Relevant qualifications or training related to special educational needs (desirable).
