Permanent Senior Finance Manager - Education Organisation

Salary: £40,000 - £47,000 DOE + LGPS Pension + Flexible Working

Trinity House Group is working exclusively with an educatio organisation in Birmingham to recruit a Senior Finance Manager with a medium-term progression plan to become Finance Director. The role is focused on leading the finance team and bridging finance and non-finance colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and implementing financial strategies and policies.
  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger.
  • Manage payroll and pensions operations.
  • Conduct regular financial reconciliations and audits.
  • Provide financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reports.
  • Collaborate on departmental budgets and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Implement effective financial controls and risk management strategies.
  • Stay updated with sector information and advise on impacts and opportunities.
  • Lead and guide the finance and payroll team.
  • Present financial information to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Engage with external stakeholders such as auditors and funding bodies.
  • Ensure financial robustness of new activities and monitor their progress.
  • Lead month and year-end processes and prepare financial statements.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, ideally in an educational or public sector setting.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of financial principles and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to explain complex financial issues to non-finance colleagues.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of financial risk management and control strategies.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Fully-qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIPFA, CIMA, etc.) or a finalist close to qualification.
