Company Overview - Viridor Energy

Viridor Energy is a leader in the UK's transition to a more sustainable future. With a strong focus on transforming waste into energy, Viridor's Energy Division plays a critical role in reducing landfill use and supporting the UK's goal of net-zero carbon emissions. Originally established in 1956 as part of the Pennon Group, Viridor has evolved into a cutting-edge player in waste-to-energy technologies. Acquired by private equity firm KKR in 2020, Viridor now operates a network of advanced Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs) that convert non-recyclable waste into electricity and heat. With ambitious plans to become carbon-negative by 2040, Viridor is at the forefront of environmental innovation, making this an exciting time to join the company as it continues to grow and innovate in resource recovery and energy generation.

Overview of the Role

Are you a seasoned finance professional with a passion for energy, sustainability, and high-impact leadership? You will also:

  • Lead the delivery of financial reporting for the Energy division, ensuring high-quality monthly management and external shareholder reporting, including for M&A and business growth projects.
  • Manage compliance with IFRS standards and legislative regulations, providing key technical guidance to the finance team and stakeholders.
  • Oversee annual audits, working closely with external auditors and providing critical insights into accounting technical papers for the board.
  • Develop and implement finance policies and procedures, ensuring rigorous internal controls over the balance sheet and wider divisional operations.
  • Coordinate risk management efforts, including maintaining the Divisional Risk Register and communicating with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in financial reporting, governance, and risk, ensuring a safety-led culture and adherence to high environmental, health, and safety standards.

Experience:

  • ACA / ACCA qualified or equivalent with strong technical accounting/audit background
  • Deep expertise in IFRS, statutory reporting, risk management, and internal controls.
  • Proven people management experience
  • Motivated by a passion for supporting Viridor's mission of net-negative carbon emissions and transforming the UK waste industry.

Why Viridor?
By joining Viridor, you'll be part of a forward-thinking company that not only leads in waste management and energy recovery but is also dedicated to reducing carbon emissions and supporting the UK's transition to a sustainable future. As a key member of our finance team, you'll have the opportunity to work on significant business growth projects, such as M&A and business development, while playing a pivotal role in driving Viridor's ambitious carbon-negative strategy.
