Health & Safety Manager

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Manager for a prestigious manufacturing organisation in the Letchworth area.

This role will not involve managing a team as there are not any direct reports - but this position does incorporate considerable responsibility and influence within the business.

This position is office based: Monday to Friday.

The main responsibility for this position will be managing the Health & Safety for the company and leading on all Health & Safety matters- ensuring that all compliance is followed in line with Health & Safety guidelines.

The successful candidate would have worked previously within the manufacturing sector and will be responsible for reducing the risk of accidents and on-site injuries in the workplace by identifying hazards and putting solutions in place to protect employees and visitors to the site.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Health & Safety Manager:

  • Maintain ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management Standard
  • Conduct regular internal audits and workplace inspections
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with COSHH Regulations and that all COSHH assessments are carried out.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all risk assessments are created and carried out.
  • Conduct regular internal audits.
  • Proactively identify hazards in the workplace and implement solutions limiting the risk od accidents.
  • Ensure compliance with RIDDOR.
  • Chair the H & S Committee and facilitate regular meetings, ensuring that actions are delegated appropriately.
  • Successfully implements employee-based training so reducing the risk of accidents and illnesses on site.
  • Regular checks on permits are all documented correctly.
  • Support shifts and visit regularly to ensure compliance is across all shifts.
  • Plus many other ad hoc duties associated with a Health & Safety role.

Person Specification of a Health & Safety Manager:

  • Must have worked within a manufacturing environment.
  • Be a strategic individual with a hands-on approach.
  • Previously managed Health & Safety in a Manufacturing or Distribution company.
  • Understanding and experience of ISO 45001
  • Ideally be NEBOSH diploma qualified
  • Strong communications skills, able to influence and delegate.
  • Analytic with excellent problem-solving skills
