Support Worker

These roles have a starting salary of £26,777 per annum, based on working 36 hours per week and £13,388.50 per annum, working 18 hours per week.

The hours are spread over 5 days and made up of a variety of shifts to support our 24-hour service at Rodney Place, KT12 3LE, Surrey. This salary will be pro-rated for part time working.

We are looking for individuals who are seeking a role that will allow them to help make a difference to vulnerable adults living in Supported Living accommodation in Walton On Thames by working as Support Workers. We have:

  • 4 vacancies for full time Support Workers (36 hours per week)
  • 3 vacancies for part time Support Workers (18 hours per week)

Ideal candidates for this role will be required to have excellent listening and communication skills with empathy and a positive support approach.

About the Team

We are looking for individuals who are seeking a role that will allow them to help make a difference to vulnerable adults living in Supported Living accommodation in Walton On Thames by working as Support Workers.

You will receive Full Induction Training (including mandatory training), as well as the opportunity to undertake further Personal Skills Training under regular staff supervision.

About the Role

As a Support Worker your main responsibility will be working with and supporting Adults with learning difficulties to create positive outcomes and promote independence. You will undertake direct practical interactions with service users; including cooking, personal care and engaging with the wider community. For those residents you are supporting, you will also engage planning, implementation and delivery of care plans.

Aside from direct support for our residents, you will also have a the responsibility of organising shifts and communicating with colleagues to plan and coordinate activities. You will also have the duty of working in partnership with other agencies, creating reports and attending and contributing to reviews as required.

You don't need any formal qualifications to apply for Support Worker positions; you simply need to have the right qualities:

  • Understanding of the sensitivity to the needs of people with learning disabilities.
  • A willingness to encourage and support people with learning disabilities to access activities and facilities in the community.
  • Respect for the cultures and beliefs of the people we support.
  • The resilience and emotional intelligence to handle challenging situations. Every day is different and can throw up its own challenges and pressures. You need to be adaptable but able to follow guidelines with a consistent, person-centred approach.
  • A flexible attitude, both to the level of care required by the people we support as well as the time requirements of the role.

Please note that this role involves shift work and working alternate weekends.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Significant experience within a social service, supported living, or health setting.
  • Understanding of the needs and aspirations of adults with learning difficulties who may have additional physical or sensory disabilities or mental health needs.
  • The ability to communicate with people with physical, cognitive, or learning difficulties.
  • Experience of working as part of a team and an understanding of how to develop and motivate colleagues
