Are you passionate about science and education? We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Science Technician to join a dynamic secondary school in Wakefield. This role is perfect for a dedicated professional looking to make a significant impact on students' learning experiences.

As a Science Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Science Department, ensuring that practical lessons run smoothly and safely. Your expertise will help to inspire the next generation of scientists by providing high-quality technical support and maintaining an organised, efficient working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up equipment and materials for practical science lessons, including chemicals, specimens, and apparatus.
  • Assist teaching staff during laboratory sessions, offering technical support and ensuring health and safety protocols are followed.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is clean, functional, and available for use.
  • Safely dispose of hazardous materials and manage chemical inventories in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Organise and store laboratory supplies, maintaining an accurate inventory and ordering new materials as needed.
  • Support the development and implementation of new experiments and practical activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to students during practical sessions, fostering a safe and engaging learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience as a Science Technician or in a similar technical role within an educational setting.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety regulations related to laboratory work.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with teaching staff and students.
  • A genuine passion for science and education, with a commitment to supporting student learning.
