Admin-Based Population Estimates analyst

Posted by GTC Recruitment Limited.

As an Admin-Based Population Estimates Analyst, you will play a crucial role in developing, maintaining, and disseminating population and migration statistics. This involves performing statistical analyses, conducting research, and ensuring high-quality standards in the production of demographic outputs. You will contribute to the development of new methodologies, analyse complex datasets, and support the broader Population Analysis team in delivering insights that inform policy and public understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop expertise in population and migration statistics by conducting literature reviews, exploring relevant methods and data sources, and making proposals for data utilisation.
  • Assist in end-to-end process mapping, transitioning Admin-Based Estimates from research to production, and providing secretarial support for governance meetings.
  • Run and maintain code for regular demographic output production, including publication datasets and bulletins.
  • Engage with stakeholders to identify user needs, presenting findings through reports, articles, and verbal presentations.
  • Investigate data trends and quality issues, using your initiative to suggest process improvements.
  • Utilise statistical and analytical coding techniques, particularly in Python (PySpark) and R, ensuring compliance with statistical protocols to maximise trust and prevent unintended disclosure.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Strong quantitative analysis skills, with experience in statistical coding languages, ideally Python or R.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex analyses to non-specialists.
  • Ability to work independently, delivering high-quality results at pace while seeking guidance when necessary.
  • Proficiency in summarising and interpreting information from diverse sources, conducting basic analyses of key datasets.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with statistical protocols and data protection measures.
  • Ability to select and apply appropriate coding techniques for analysis.
  • Willingness to learn new coding languages and analytical methods as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teams across PSD and MQD to develop methods for creating representative longitudinal datasets.
  • Contribute to the ongoing strategy development for the Dynamic Population Model (DPM), ensuring alignment with methodological standards.

This role offers a dynamic and challenging environment where you will have the opportunity to make significant contributions to the understanding of population trends and the development of key demographic insights.
