Commercial Project Accountant

Our client, a leading company in the environmental, manufacturing, and engineering sectors, is currently seeking a Commercial Project Accountant to join their team at Shoreham - By - Sea team on a contract basis. Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, this role is essential for the financial support and strategic decision-making in large programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing accurate and timely financial reports on project performance, including forecasts, budgets, and actual results
  • Conducting variance analysis and highlighting key risks and opportunities to project stakeholders and senior management
  • Supporting the development of financial models for project cost and working capital management
  • Assisting in the preparation of project budgets and maintaining rolling forecasts
  • Monitoring and controlling project costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal controls
  • Acting as a financial business partner to project managers and other key stakeholders
  • Providing financial insights to drive strategic decision-making for project execution

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified accountant - ACCA/ACA/CIMA or equivalent
  • Proven experience as a project accountant, preferably in a commercial role
  • Strong proficiency in financial modelling, data analysis, and reporting
  • Sound understanding of balance sheet, profit & loss, and cash flow statements
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate complex financial data clearly to key stakeholders

Desirable Skills:

  • Background experience within a manufacturing or engineering organisation
  • Experience working in a PLC
  • Sound technical finance capabilities (IFRS) together with operational and commercial expertise
