PR & Communications Officer

Hays Marketing & Communications are proud to be working in partnership with a charity in Milton Keynes who are looking to appoint a PR & Communications Officer to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who wants to make a difference in one of the most innovative and exciting medical research fundraising charities in the UK.
This is a pivotal role where you will be a part of strengthening the reputation of the charity through print, broadcast and online media both nationally and regionally. Your responsibility will be for a specific region and you will work to ensure people across that region are increasingly aware of the charity and the great work they do.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years+ experience gained within PR, Media and Communications. You will be competent at writing and pitching stories in an engaging and concise way, promoting their key messaging and core campaigns. You will work closely with the Community Fundraising team in order to maximise fundraising opportunities, strengthen existing relationships and develop new ones. Work closely with the Digital Marketing team to maximise reach opportunities, respond to incoming media enquiries, track PR coverage and support, promote awareness and fundraising activities and write and proofread press releases and case studies.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following essential skills:

  • A degree within public relations, media communications or a related field or at least 2 years+ relevant experience
  • Track record of generating PR coverage
  • Ability to create and tailor content for a variety of print/digital
  • Excellent copywriting, content skills and the ability to consistently deliver key messaging
  • Strong English written and oral skills and ability to write compelling, engaging and concise copy
  • High attention to detail in terms of spelling and grammar, and editing others' work
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines whilst remaining adaptable to a fast-moving news agenda
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work within a close-knit team and establish rapport with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders
  • Competent IT skills, including detailed knowledge of using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook and familiarity with using social media to promote organisational aims and experience of using CRM databases
  • Experience of working within the charity, not-for-profit and public sectors is desirable but not essential.
