Job Purpose: The Deputy Manager supports the Nursery Manager in daily operations and assumes management responsibilities in their absence. This role requires confident decision-making, balancing business reputation and financial considerations with the sensitivity needed for children and families. The Deputy Manager ensures high-quality education and care, adherence to policies and procedures, and compliance with legislative requirements.

Responsibilities:

Operational:

  • Assist the Manager and deputize as needed.
  • Adhere to and promote nursery policies and procedures.
  • Maintain nursery security, including opening and closing.
  • Manage complaints, report to governing bodies, and support staff during inspections.
  • Ensure appropriate staff-to-child ratios and manage staff schedules.
  • Handle admissions and update nursery management software.
  • Safeguard children and adults, report concerns, and ensure accurate attendance records.
  • Implement and review Health and Safety policies, conduct emergency drills, and oversee cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Administer first aid and medication, report accidents, and ensure compliance with recruitment policies.
  • Conduct self-evaluations and staff meetings to uphold high standards.
  • Identify and organize staff training and address performance issues.
  • Oversee room management and ensure a stimulating environment for children.
  • Manage children's developmental records and engage families in planning.

Financial Operations:

  • Update nursery management software, maintain waiting lists, and process invoices.
  • Implement marketing plans to maximise occupancy.
  • Handle payroll and fee collection in the Manager's absence.

Customer Service Operations:

  • Promote nursery services and ensure family retention.
  • Train staff for professional and welcoming tours for prospective customers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure regular communication with families through newsletters and events.

Additional Duties:

  • Undertake other tasks as requested by the Nursery Manager and work flexibly to meet nursery needs.
