HR Officer / HR Generalist- Term Time Contract

We have an excellent opportunity for an HR Officer or HR Generalist / HR Assistant with solid administration skills to provide a first line HR generalist support to an education provider site in Southampton for a permanent term time contract. (Pro Rata salary - Salary advertised is Full Time equivilent)
Reporting to the School Principal and Area Operations Manager you will be responsible for the day to day HR operations, administration, recruitment and first line employer relations case work for a busy school in Southampton.
Key areas of work include

  • Recruitment from initial job descriptions, adverts, job boards, and coordination of interviews / panels, / interview arrangements, communication with candidates throughout the process and through to offer, new starter contracts and all recruitment administration.
  • Vetting & Onboarding - including Right to Work, DBS check, references, pre-employment checks and specialist education compliance vetting.
  • Payroll - checking payroll with an outsourced provider, liaison with finance and HR services on all aspects of setup through to offboarding
  • Employer Relations - First line employer relations case work including - absence management, sickness, performance, misconduct and grievance. Working with the Regional HR Business Partner and Head of HR to review all ER/HR cases and manage responses for initial 1st line ER support and handing over to Head of HR
  • Absence Management - support all absence management and tracking process
  • General Administration - updating employee records and HR information and key data and reporting

Candidates
This role would suit an HR generalist or HR Assistant / HR Officer / HR Coordinator / junior HR Advisor or possibly an HR Administrator who is looking for a Term Time Contract within a school to support the day to day operational HR activities of the running of a busy school. You will be supported by the Regional HR Business Partner and HR Lead and work in collaboration with other HR Officers in region.

  • Ideally, you will have a level 3 CIPD.
  • Strong administration skills and experience ideally working within regulated or complex environments such as care, schools, education, public sector or similar.
  • Experience of recruitment, vetting and onboarding
  • Ideally, experience of first line employer relations but not essential support, coaching and training will be provided.
  • Beneficial if you have experience of minute taking for meetings including ER case meeting notes.
  • The ability to manage conflicting demands and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Experience of using an HR system (ideally ITrent) to issue contracts.
  • Experience of administering a range of vetting and pre-employment checks (e.g. references and DBS)
  • Working knowledge of People systems and employment law
  • A high level of written English - ability to write clearly, concisely and creatively
  • Good IT skills with particular knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Understanding of the practical application of Equal Opportunities in the workplace.

Offer
Full-Time 37 hours
On site in Southampton
Term Time Contact + 10 days within school holidays to finish terms and prepare for the new term/year.
Salary pro rata to term time contract
Initial 3 months fixed term contract to start ASAP in August ideally
After an initial 3-month contract, it is highly likely that a successful candidate would be engaged on a permanent contract.
