Assistant Accountant

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join a leading creative event studio based in Guildford. As the business continues to grow, they are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support the finance team and ensure the financial health and stability of the business.

The Assistant Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the Head of Finance and the Management Team by accurately processing financial data, facilitating an efficient month-end close, preparing and maintaining financial reports, and handling bookkeeping and accounting duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and enter purchase invoices into Xero
  • Post daily bank entries to Xero and reconcile bank accounts and corporate credit cards
  • Monitor and manage Accounts@ and Purchasing@ email accounts
  • Create and maintain supplier accounts within Xero
  • Create and administer tracking codes within Xero
  • Perform supplier statement reconciliations
  • Report on debtors and creditors including handling credit control and reconcile debtors' accounts
  • Prepare and process weekly payment runs to suppliers
  • Collaborate with the events team to ensure all payments have matching receipts
  • Complete financial reports regularly and provide information to the Management Team
  • Assist with forecasting and budgeting and conduct year-end analysis
  • Work with the events team to ensure accurate month-end event accruals
  • Maintain the company fixed asset register and post depreciation journals
  • Complete other month-end accrual and prepayment journals
  • Reconcile allocated balance sheet accounts monthly, taking appropriate action on reconciling items
  • Perform general office duties and undertake other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business

Skills and Qualifications:

  • AAT qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Good bookkeeping skills
  • Experience processing purchase invoices
  • Bank account and credit card reconciliation experience
  • Good knowledge of VAT
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
  • Experience with Xero (desirable)
  • Experience in events and hospitality (desirable)
  • Improvement-driven mindset (desirable)
