Senior Housing Enforcement Officer

Pay: £42 per hour

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Rickmansworth with one day per week required in the office

Driving Licence: Desirable but not essential

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Housing Enforcement Officer to join our Housing Services team. The successful candidate will lead the Residential Environmental Health team, handling complex casework and providing expert advice on statutory housing enforcement functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection & Enforcement: Lead inspections of residential properties under the Housing Health & Safety Rating System. Identify and rate hazards, enforce remedial actions, and serve necessary legal notices (Improvement Notices, Prohibition Orders, etc.).

Technical Advice: Provide complex technical and professional advice to customers, staff, colleagues, and external agencies.

Knowledge Hub: Act as the principal advisor on all aspects of residential environmental health, staying updated with legislation, policies, and best practices.

Evidence Management: Obtain, preserve, and manage evidence according to PACE guidelines. Prepare cases for prosecution and present evidence in court and tribunals.

HMO & Mobile Home Sites: Inspect and manage standards for HMOs, issue licenses, and ensure compliance. Oversee annual inspections of mobile home sites.

Statutory Nuisances: Investigate and enforce actions on statutory nuisances, including drainage complaints and abatement notices.

Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to the Housing Enforcement Officer, assisting them in completing their formal qualifications.

Qualifications: Degree/Diploma in Environmental Health, with Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or Chartered Status.

Experience: Up-to-date knowledge of environmental and public health aspects, effective team working skills, and ability to manage complex casework.
