Speech & Language Therapist (Band 6)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear

Salary: £35k - £42k + Excellent Benefits

The Client:

Our client is a well-known charitable organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with diverse learning and physical needs through personalised care and support.

The Role:

As a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, you'll provide specialised speech and language therapy to students with complex needs.

Duties:

  • Assess and provide therapy interventions for students with complex needs in an educational setting, supported by a clinical supervisor.
  • Collaborate within a trans-disciplinary team to integrate therapy targets into the curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate records as per departmental procedures.
  • Organise training and advice for carers, school staff, and professionals.
  • Supervise students, support workers, and less experienced therapists, providing clinical leadership and mentoring.
  • Manage caseload following comprehensive assessments, collaborating closely with class teams.
  • Prepare clear therapy plans linked to students' Educational, Health, and Care Plans (EHCP).
  • Collaborate with PHF staff to ensure consistent approach across settings.
  • Provide training and advice to enhance knowledge and standards for carers and educational staff.
  • Supervise and review therapy interventions conducted by carers and assistants.
  • Support less experienced staff in caseload management and clinical development.
  • Contribute to policy development and adhere to departmental plans and procedures.
  • Participate in standard setting, quality assurance, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise SLT student placements and contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements:

  • Previously worked as a Speech and Language Therapist or in a similar role.
  • Qualified therapist status.
  • HPC registration and Member of RCSLT
  • Familiarity with issues related to complex Autism Spectrum Conditions.
  • Background in working with children with complex special needs, including sensory impairments and challenging behaviours.
  • Experience working with children supported by EHCP or SEN.
  • Knowledgeable in evidence-based therapy strategies for complex special needs.
  • Competent in group management and ICT.
