Business Development Manager, Maritime (12 Month FTC) - International Law Firm

An exciting 12 month fixed term contract opportunity has arisen within a rapidly expanding international law firm who require a self-motivated Business Development Manager to join their close-knit and highly-regarded team to support the delivery of BD and marketing activities for the Maritime sector.

The firm's Business Development and Communications department comprises over 50 business development, marketing and communications professionals across the globe. As the firm's route to market is through global sectors and clients are international, team members regularly collaborate to deliver cross-border campaigns and global projects. It is a very supportive team with an excellent reputation across the firm. The role will require the provision of both strategic and operational support to lawyers in the management and growth of existing client relationships and the development of new business. Working with the Global Maritime Sector Lead and a dynamic and ambitious Sector Head, you will be instrumental in driving the growth of this market-leading sector group. The firm's large maritime legal practice is recognised as one of the pre-eminent law firms in the sector and, as an industry leader, advises on some of the most complex, cross border and high value maritime matters in the world, as well as supporting the industry in its transition to a more sustainable future. With line management and career development responsibility for the firm's maritime Business Development Executive, the successful candidate will work closely with a core team of BD professionals and with the broader Global Business Development and Communications team, to improve the coordination and delivery of initiatives across the firm, adding value to the business and also the firm's clients. You will serve as a mentor, sounding board and role model for junior members of the team and contribute to overall team planning, development and culture. Staying well-informed and engaged on the latest industry developments and market trends, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for implementing and delivering the London maritime business development and marketing plan and for developing and managing the budget, ensuring spend is aligned to strategy and delivers a return on investment. You will contribute to the development of long-term profitable relationships by supporting partners in the management of key clients, identifying opportunities to grow relationships, participating in client reviews and post-transaction feedback and providing strategic advice and recommendations to partners based on client feedback. You will also be tasked with the project management of sector pitch opportunities including the preparation of pitch documentation, coaching teams ahead of presentations and securing client feedback to assess quality and value. On the marketing side, the role holder will develop and execute profile raising activities and initiatives to develop market position through appropriate digital channels, events, conferences, strategic directories, league tables and awards.

The ideal candidate will be hard-working and ambitious with an active awareness or understanding of the maritime sector, allied to proven professional services business development or relevant industry experience. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a strong ability to work effectively with and influence key stakeholders. It is essential that the Business Development Manager possesses the ability to understand product and service development issues and the capability to take responsibility for and lead specific projects.
