Robert Half Technology are assisting a London based university to recruit a CIO on a 12 month FTC.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be critical in driving the institution's digital transformation strategy, ensuring the effective delivery of IT services, and aligning technology with the university's academic, research, and administrative goals. The CIO will oversee all aspects of information technology, data management, cyber security, and digital infrastructure, ensuring that the university remains at the forefront of technological innovation in higher education.

Role:

Strategic Leadership:

  • The CIO will develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy that supports the university's strategic objectives and enhances its academic and administrative functions.
  • Drive the digital transformation agenda, ensuring the adoption of innovative technologies that improve teaching, learning, research, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the IT governance framework, ensuring that IT investments are aligned with institutional priorities and deliver maximum value.

IT Operations & Infrastructure:

  • The CIO will oversee the management of all IT operations, including network infrastructure, data centres, enterprise systems, cloud services, and user support.
  • Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of the university's IT infrastructure to support a diverse and growing academic community.
  • Lead the implementation of enterprise-wide systems, including student information systems, learning management systems, and research platforms.

Cyber security & Risk Management:

  • Develop and implement robust cyber security strategies to protect the university's data and IT assets from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations, including GDPR, and manage the university's response to IT-related risks.
  • Lead initiatives to promote cyber security awareness across the university community.

Data Management & Analytics:

  • Oversee the development of a university-wide data management strategy that enhances the use of data analytics in decision-making.
  • Drive initiatives to improve data quality, accessibility, and integration across different systems and departments.
  • Lead efforts to leverage data analytic to support academic research, student success, and operational efficiency

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion within the IT department, ensuring a work environment that values diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
  • Manage the IT budget effectively, ensuring cost efficiency while maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with academic, research, and administrative leaders to understand their IT needs and provide solutions that enhance their work.
  • Act as the primary IT liaison with external partners, including technology vendors, government agencies, and other higher education institutions.
  • Represent the university in relevant external forums and partnerships, promoting its IT capabilities and strategic initiatives.

Profile

  • The CIO will ideally have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's or MBA preferred).
  • Extensive experience in a senior IT leadership role, preferably within higher education or a similarly complex organisation.
  • Proven track record of leading digital transformation initiatives and managing large-scale IT projects.
  • Strong understanding of the higher education landscape and the unique IT needs of academic and research institutions.
  • Expertise in cyber security, data management, and IT governance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

The salary range/rates of pay is dependent upon your experience, qualifications or training.
