The Company:

We are currently working with a leading Marine Pollution company who respond to oil or chemical spills worldwide. Their highly skilled international team are ready to assist 24 hours a day and provide vast technical advice.

The Role:

This role involves emergency response and attending on site oil and chemical spills globally, providing advice to international parties including governments. You will be involved in assessing compensation claims, regular presentations and organising workshops as part of the companies education work. Duties include:

  • Providing advice and effective response strategies and methods to alleviate damage
  • Undertaking aerial reconnaissance and boat / shoreline surveys to report oil movement etc.
  • Monitoring response operation and investigating damage to environment
  • Recording and reporting findings efficiently
  • Liaising with all parties including ship owners, insurers, case handlers, government etc.
  • Carry the 24-hour emergency pager when required
  • Investigate the scientific, technical and financial aspects of alleged damage to economic resources and the environment
  • Prepare claim assessments and reports
  • Advise government authorities and shipping / oil organizations on preparedness and response
  • Undertake studies on preparedness for international organisations
  • Provide presentations, written papers, external training and courses for all levels of personnel involved
  • Maintain awareness of developments in oil spill response techniques

Requirements:

  • A higher degree in a relevant scientific, engineering or marine pollution related subject
  • Relevant previous working or research experience and evidence of applying scientific principles and training
  • Working experience of travelling under demanding circumstances and working long hours
  • Full UK / European driving license (manual)
  • Confident, with a professional and patient manner with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to deliver complex technical messages clearly
  • Competent swimmer
  • Willing to be available on a continuous basis 24/7 throughout the year and to travel extensively sometimes with only a few hours notice to anywhere in the world
  • Fluency in another language is beneficial but not essential
