£30,000 - £40,000, Sheffield

37.5 hours per week (Monday to Thursday, 07:30 - 16:00, Friday 07:30 - 13:00)

Our client is now seeking an NPI & Product Support Engineer to join their dedicated, specialist team. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, co-ordinating a cost effective and timely introduction of new products in collaboration with other departments and will make an essential contribution to continuously improving their products and processes for the benefit of their customers.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate with all relevant departments (R&D, Operations, Procurement) to ensure a cost effective and timely introduction of new products.
  • Identify and implement processes for new products.
  • Plan and oversee new manufacturing processes and ensure successful transition.
  • Conducts risk assessments and risk mitigation.
  • Identify, report and resolve production bottle necks.
  • Ensure product and process quality.
  • Produce project timelines and costings for production.
  • Assess tooling requirement and ordering.
  • Design transfer ownership.
  • Produce and update technical literature.
  • Generation of part codes and UDIs.
  • Work with suppliers / procurement to ensure materials and components are delivered on time.
  • Facilitate feasibility studies.
  • Product support on existing lines.
  • Implement design change controls where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance of the product and process.
  • Implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Support cost reduction activities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and problem solving where required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects, using lean methods.

Key Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role and have a background in process engineering within a manufacturing environment. You will be qualified in a relevant discipline, either apprentice trained or to degree level. As an experienced engineer, looking for improvements and new technical solutions will come naturally to you.
  • You are enthusiastic about what you do, have a positive can-do attitude and with adaptability and resilience when under pressure.
  • A self-starter who will see projects through to a timely and cost-effective solution.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills; able to work collaboratively and with good teamworking.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills.
  • Production process improvement experience for efficiency (material utilisation; time; cost; quality; compliance).
  • Experience of working with different materials such as wood, sheet plastic, fabric, sheet cardboard etc. would be helpful.
  • An understanding of engineering and manufacturing software / tooling.
  • Knowledge or experience working with medical devices manufacture, assistive furniture or postural support products would be desirable as would knowledge of medical device regulations, however this is not essential, training will be provided.
