Vehicle Technician

  • Salary: £31,372 to £34,949 + 6% All-inclusive allowance

We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician to join our Transport Services team within the Fleet Management section. This role is essential in maintaining our large and diverse fleet of vehicles and plant equipment, ensuring they meet roadworthy conditions and usability standards.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Conduct thorough inspections and in-depth repairs on cars, light commercials, and plant equipment.
  • Perform MOT, Hackney, and Private Hire tests in accordance with DVSA and Council regulations (training provided if not a current MOT tester).
  • Provide a responsive service to help the Council meet statutory obligations and legislative requirements.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
  • Diagnose vehicle defects and issues using IT-based diagnostic equipment.
  • Complete work within a realistic time frame, whether it's manufacturers', ICME, or locally negotiated.
  • Fill out all relevant statutory documentation and support the training of apprentices by passing on necessary knowledge and skills.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • IMI/City & Guilds or NVQ Automotive Servicing and Repair Level 3 (Light or Heavy).
  • IMI/City & Guilds Motor-Craft Part 1 & 2 or BTEC equivalent (Light or Heavy).
  • ICT Literacy.
  • Valid Driving License.
  • Knowledge of the motor vehicle retail industry and vehicle manufacturers' specifications.
  • Experience in a Transport Workshop environment delivering reactive repairs, project work, servicing, and technical skills.
  • Experience in either a franchised dealership or major fleet operation is preferred.
