The responsible individual is a key role in the management and oversight of children's homes that are registered with CIW (Care Inspectorate Wales). The responsible individual has the following main responsibilities:
- Oversight and Governance:

Ensuring the home is effectively and efficiently managed and runs in accordance with the relevant regulations and standards.

Providing strategic direction and oversight to the registered manager of the home.

Monitoring the performance of the home and the registered manager.
- Safeguarding and Well-being:

Ensuring the home promotes the health, safety, and well-being of the children and young people living there.

Overseeing the home's safeguarding policies and practices to protect children from harm.

Ensuring any incidents or allegations are appropriately investigated and addressed.
- Quality Assurance:

Regularly reviewing the quality of care provided in the home.

Identifying areas for improvement and ensuring an action plan is in place to address them.

Gathering feedback from children, families, staff, and other stakeholders to inform quality improvement.
- Leadership and Management:

Supporting and supervising the registered manager in their duties.

Ensuring the home is sufficiently resourced, with appropriate staffing levels and staff development.

Promoting a positive culture and values within the home.
