Learning Lead Teacher

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a local authority to help secure Learning Lead Teachers to work with small groups of students who have anti-social behaviour.

Main Job Purpose:
To supervise and guide learners, removing barriers to learning to promote effective participation, enhance individual learning, raise aspirations, and help students achieve their full potential. Supervise the Learning Mentor and assist students transitioning between KS3 and KS4.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and guide learners accessing learning alternative provision.
  • Develop an understanding of the school curriculum, alternative provision, and pastoral care system.
  • Create strategies to identify early signs of disengagement and implement interventions.
  • Train and brief staff on embedding these strategies in daily activities.
  • Support the student support team in monitoring attendance, truancy, and at-risk learners.
  • Liaise with the Project Lead to manage a caseload of students and initiate projects and re-integration plans.
  • Respond to unplanned classroom incidents requiring intervention.
  • Establish effective mentoring relationships and encourage engagement in learning opportunities.
  • Facilitate student withdrawal and re-integration.
  • Act as the first contact for child protection issues.
  • Oversee personalized action plans for learners.
  • Develop and implement strategies to overcome barriers to learning, including mentoring materials.
  • Share good practices within local networks and partner agencies to enhance pastoral care provision.
  • Liaise with external agencies on issues like substance misuse, sexual health awareness, bullying, self-harm, mental health, and child protection.
  • Participate in regular meetings.
  • Maintain a professional image at all times within the Learning Hub.

The Ideal Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Willingness to obtain and enhance qualifications/training.
  • 2-3 years of experience working with young people, including those with BESD.
  • Knowledge of complex child protection matters and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven skills in managing challenging behavior.
  • IT skills and ability to work with supporting services in statutory and voluntary sectors.

Desirable:

  • Teaching Qualification (Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, PGCE, or Cert Ed).
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a related field.
  • Experience with vocational qualifications like BTEC, NVQs.
  • Previous experience with youth service partner agencies.
  • Knowledge of local districts and partner agencies in young people's services.
