Statutory SEN Case Worker - Remote Working

Role Purpose:

The Local Authority (LA) undertakes a wide range of statutory and non-statutory activity to ensure that effective education impacts positively on the outcomes for children and young people from birth to the age of twenty-five who have SEN (special educational needs) in the Local Authority. Statutory responsibilities are set out in the Children and Family Act 2014 (part 3) and the SEND (special educational needs and/or disabilities) Code of Practice 0-25 2015. The purpose of the Statutory SEN Service is to enable effective education to impact positively on the outcomes for children and young people from birth to the age of twenty-five who have the most complex learning needs in the Local Authority. Key is ensuring the complete and effective implementation of procedures and processes for the identification, statutory assessment and review of special educational needs (SEN) under the terms of the Children's Act 2014 (part 3) and the SEND Code of Practice 0-25 2015. The post holder is a representative of the Local Authority (LA) working with families and young people, schools and settings, and a wide range of colleagues from within education, health and social care services in matters relating to the assessment of, and provision for, children and young people with SEN. The post holder is the central point of contact in relation to a number of children and young people, and, schools and settings. This role requires the post holder to manage and prioritise his/her own work to meet statutory requirements whilst also being collaborative, informative and person centred in all aspects of work. The role holder works with other Statutory SEN Caseworkers and the Statutory SEN Area Casework Officers to ensure effective, proactive delivery of statutory SEN functions. This includes: representing the Local Authority at meetings with young people and families, and schools and settings e.g. reviews; attending the SEN decision panel in relation to cases; meeting with young people and families to discuss the details of evidence, needs, outcomes and provision in relation to Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments and plans. Through delivery of statutory SEN responsibilities, including active partnership working with young people, families, educational settings and other services, the post holder secures the best outcomes for children and young people with SEN.
