Adept Resourcing is pleased to partner with a Chesterfield-based electronics manufacturing company that delivers solutions to businesses in various high-tech, high-reliability, and high-expectation market sectors.

The Role:

The EHS Coordinator will be a vital member of the operations team, helping to elevate the profile of EHS and enhance the safety culture. Their main responsibility will be to ensure thorough risk assessments and hazard evaluations are conducted, followed by actions to manage and mitigate risks. This will involve monitoring and managing the site grounds, facilities, and business management systems to ensure adequate EHS and security measures.

The role will encompass aspects of health and safety as well as environmental systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Risk Assessments: Ensure thorough and adequate risk assessments are completed, reviewed, and actioned for both routine and non-routine activities within the business.
  • Compliance Management: Identify legal and compliance obligations, assess adherence, and implement actions to address any gaps.
  • Perform Audits: Conduct routine audits across all areas and functions, report findings to management, and develop action plans to address deficiencies.
  • Incident Reporting: Enhance the system for reporting incidents, unsafe conditions, and near misses to support injury reduction.
  • Manage COSHH Inventory: Maintain a COSHH inventory, conduct risk assessments on substance use, and collaborate with procurement to ensure only approved substances are sourced.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement procedures for emergency preparedness and response, including fire, first aid, and security.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Management: Create an integrated management system compliant with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Contractor Management: Implement and manage contractor procedures, including pre-work RAMs review, site induction, permit issuance, and on-site monitoring.
  • Facility Maintenance: Develop maintenance schedules for site facilities and infrastructure, coordinating internal and service agreement maintenance activities.
  • Asbestos Management: Manage asbestos in line with site maintenance schedules and legal requirements.
  • Supervise Work: Monitor and control daily activities of staff and contractors to ensure safe operating procedures.
  • Line Management: Oversee a facilities operative responsible for physical maintenance and caretaking activities on site.
  • Environmental Impact: Identify and manage environmental aspects and impacts of business operations, addressing management gaps.
  • Policy Development: Lead the development of site and facilities-related policies and procedures.
  • Waste Management: Identify and optimize waste streams, working with procurement to improve waste contracts and agreements.
  • Energy Consumption: Review and recommend improvements for company energy consumption, maintaining records of inspections, works, and utilities/fuel efficiency.

Person Specification / Key Skills, Experience, and Attributes

  • NEBOSH general certificate in Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety legislation.
  • Experience in developing and implementing environmental, health, and safety management systems.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role; facilities management experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in developing strategies for improvement.
  • Knowledge of existing EHS legislation and the ability to interpret it.
  • Ability to review and critique health and safety documentation and provide effective feedback.
  • Ability to create reports and present information clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, with strong analytical skills and initiative.
  • High levels of computer literacy.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team, contributing to the delivery of business objectives.
