Butterworth Laboratories is a busy contract analytical chemistry laboratory working primarily for the pharmaceutical industry. The company is independent and prides itself in providing a high quality, reliable analytical service to its clients.

The role:

As part of the Facilities and Environmental team, you will work within both the active chemistry laboratory and the office environment. The role is very much hands on and you will be required to utilise your technical and administrative skills to support the Company in providing its high-quality orientated services to the Pharmaceutical industry.

Please note that this role is based at our site in Teddington, therefore candidates must be able to commute to Teddington on a daily basis and for emergency out of hours call outs as and when necessary.

Job Responsibilities of a Senior Facilities and Environmental Officer:

  • Primary responsibility for sample temperature monitoring devices and associated software.
  • Monitor temperature control systems during the working day to ensure equipment is working to specification.
  • Provide Laboratory and QA teams with temperature monitoring data for clients and auditors.
  • Responsible for Administering Asset Register - for Analytical Laboratory Instruments & Equipment.
  • Administration and management of external service contracts for instrument maintenance, calibration and other site services.
  • Supporting the environmental monitoring of the Facilities, both internally and externally (including Solvent Vapours, Acid Fumes, Noise, Effluent pH etc). Assessing, analysing and collating the data and reporting issues to the F&E Manager.
  • Provide security training for Out of Hours staff, coordinate their handover process and provide any additional support as and when required.
  • Responding to emergency situations or other urgent issues involving the Company sites, with the ability to attend site within one hour of the emergency occurring.
  • Deputise in the absence of the F&E Manager.

Experience / Knowledge/ Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven experience working in a similar capacity.
  • Qualification in technical discipline.
  • Experience working in GMP, GLP, GCP and ISO 17025 compliant environment.
  • Full UK driving license and use of own car for work purposes to attend emergency call outs (out of hours call out related mileage will be paid).

Desired:

  • Experience of Comark RF500 Temperature Monitoring Systems
  • Experience of Q-Pulse Quality Management System

The ideal candidate should have the following qualities and skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (eg: Word, Excel). Experience in the use of laboratory related software would be an added benefit.
  • Adaptable, with a can-do attitude and willing to adopt improved working practices
  • Able to work autonomously, prioritising, organising and completing multiple tasks within set deadlines
  • Comfortable working under pressure and requesting support where needed
  • Demonstratable organisational, problem solving and team working skills
  • Able to identify areas for improvement within the working remit and participate in solution implementation
  • Comfortable working as part of a team and collaborating with wider teams and individuals
  • Comfortable with scientific complexity
  • Naturally inquisitive and assiduous personality, with a high level of attention to detail.
