Finance Manager

We are looking for a Finance Manager to join a small finance team in central Bristol. The successful candidate will be responsible for monthly financial reporting, monitoring contracts, supporting the annual external audit, and managing tenancy contracts and VAT returns. This role includes line management of two staff members and requires close coordination with various teams to ensure accurate accounting for all program activity and funds.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Prepare monthly company and group management accounts, including balance sheet reconciliations.
- Monitor and report on project and programme grants, including quarterly reporting and regular review meetings with project managers.
- Represent the Finance department at meetings, ensuring the needs of the finance function are met.
- Build and manage relationships with internal budget holders and external stakeholders regarding budgets and financial reporting.
- Review payroll reports, complete reconciliations, and prepare payments to HMRC.
- Maintain an overview of cashflow, control debtors and creditors, and produce quarterly VAT returns.
- Prepare year-end management accounts and assist in the annual budget and financial planning process.
- Develop a monthly reporting pack to include variance reporting against budget and KPIs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Fully or post-exam qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA).
- Experience in preparing and analysing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Knowledge of UK tax, including VAT returns and compliance.
- Competence with Sage and other similar accounting software, and intermediate or advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in line management or team leadership, with the ability to motivate staff.
