Legal Officer
- Hourly rate: £25 per hour PAYE
- Location: Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury
- Job Type: Full-time (37 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
We are seeking a dedicated Legal Officer to join our Corporate Core Legal Services team. This role is crucial in providing strategic legal and commercial services across the organisation, ensuring that the Council's legal activities are delivered in sustainable and cost-effective ways. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of legal frameworks with the ability to advise on various legal matters effectively.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide informed legal advice within a designated department, understanding the practical implications in the relevant area.
- Communicate legal positions clearly both verbally and in writing to council officers, assessing the law, risks, and the strength of cases.
- Contribute to the Council's corporate strategic priorities and support Legal Services in achieving these goals.
- Collaborate with team members to enhance services and optimise resource use.
- Maintain excellent client relations and act as a role model to achieve service and Council-wide objectives.
- Assist with drafting documents and organising case files, including compiling litigation bundles.
- Undertake a variety of legal and technical tasks as directed, using the Case Management Software System.
- Engage in continuous self-development and participate in professional education as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Law degree or Non-Law Degree with a Graduate Diploma in Law, or Level 3 CILEx Diploma in Law & Practice or equivalent.
- Proven experience in providing legal advice both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- IT literacy, particularly with Outlook and case management systems.
- Up-to-date legal knowledge is desirable.
- Strong people management skills and precise communication skills are advantageous.
