About Childhood First:

Childhood First is a charity dedicated to enabling children and young people to recover from severe abuse and relational trauma, helping them to enjoy life and reach their full potential. We do this through specialist therapeutic residential care and treatment, along with family and network support.

Childhood First is a UKCP Training Organisational Member accredited with Middlesex University, providing in-house clinical training to its staff leading to registration as Child Psychotherapeutic Counsellors and Child Psychotherapists.

Role Overview:
Childhood First is seeking a senior leader to fill the role of Therapeutic Community Director/Registered Manager at Oakwood House children's home in Kent, supporting children aged 11-16. The successful candidate will be responsible for orchestrating and inspiring the leadership of the therapeutic community while holding and exercising the statutory duties of the Registered Manager.

Candidates must also be able to demonstrate:

  • significant experience working within the children's therapeutic residential care sector and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements relating to residential care;
  • a proven ability in managing a complex service for traumatised young people, integrating the primary tasks of care of the children and clinically training the staff;
  • exemplary leadership of psychotherapeutic relationships with staff and children and inhabit the role of clinical lead;
  • high-level psychoanalytic, psycho-dynamic and systemic thinking and communication skills;
  • a capacity and commitment for personal clinical insight and professional development.

Professional experience within a children's therapeutic service is essential as is the capacity for applicants to engage fully in an experiential clinical training, which involves group dynamics sessions and professional line management, clinical supervision and professional clinical registration.
