What is the role about?
Our DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) programme is at the forefront of ensuring safe and competent drivers for the Department of Transport. With over 70 test centres across the UK, we conduct more than 1.7 million Driving Theory Tests annually.
As a Test Centre Manager, you'll oversee the seamless delivery of our testing services, ensuring every candidate's driving theory knowledge and hazard perception are rigorously assessed. You will have responsibility for the line management of both Test Centre and Senior Test Centre Associates and uphold the highest standards of integrity and compliance, in line with DVSA's stringent guidelines.
This position is a 30 hours per week minimum contract, primarily working core hours, Monday- Friday however there will be occasional evening and weekend work required, so a degree of flexibility is required.
Just some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Test Centre Delivery:
- Central contact for staff and assist with shift fulfilment
- Maintain holiday records to prevent shortages
- Ensure correct bookings via Power BI
- Schedule support and create work rotas
Performance Management:
- Train new staff
- Ensure process changes are signed off
- Update HR on staffing issues
- Conduct performance reviews and observations
Security Management & Fraud Prevention:
- Review and close incidents on IMP
- Lead complaint investigations
- Adhere to compliance and security protocols
- Maintain test integrity and supervision
- Follow security procedures and report suspicious activity
Property Management:
- Health & Safety contact
- Conduct risk assessments
- Handle property emergencies
- Report IT issues and manage lost property
- Keep key management records
- Order and replenish stock
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with:
- Direct line management of a team.
- Experience in all elements of people management including training, coaching, performance management and recruitment.
- Significant demonstrable experience in providing high-quality customer service
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- The ability to work under pressure to short timescales and multi-tasking to complete a variety of competing activities
- Experience in working with diverse customer groups
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
- Flexibility in working hours and days, including evenings and Saturday
- The ability to remain calm and deal with confrontational candidates in a professional manner
- Good IT skills including Word/PowerPoint/Outlook and other skills as needed
- A full UK driving licence is favourable but not necessary
