Location: Kettering, UK

Salary: £25,000 - £27,750

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week

Our Client has a full-time vacancy for a Technologist to work in their Safety Product Testing department. Working within the Safety Product Testing team conducting testing on a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a global customer base, to ensure products meet a minimum level of protection. PPE tested includes gloves, fall protection, motorcycle garments, high visibility clothing, eyewear, helmets, hearing protection, chainsaw garments, kneepads, sports protection, plus many more. The department consists of a number of accredited laboratories, housing a range of test equipment and machines, used by the team to test the physical properties of PPE against International and European standards. Results from testing are reported to customers and used for their product development or to apply for CE or UKCA certification. The Safety Product Testing team consists of around 25 multiskilled technicians, technologists and other support staff, arranging and conducting the testing of PPE.

About The Role

This Technologist vacancy is predominantly for the Fall Protection PPE area and will involve arranging the testing of items such as harnesses, lanyards, connectors, anchors and many more pieces of equipment for working at height. There may also be a requirement to be involved in other PPE areas over time.

As a Technologist within the Safety Products Testing team, you will be required to carry out the following:

  • Read, learn and understand international standards for testing PPE
  • Booking in testing onto system and providing instructions for testing required to Technicians
  • Writing electronic reports and communicating results to customers
  • Answering customer enquiries, technical questions, providing quotations and support
  • Provide training and support to Technicians
  • Participate in customer visits on and off site, both in the UK and overseas (mainly Europe)
  • Audit customers factory production control
  • Occasional testing which may include working at height and climbing test facilities
  • Occasional involvement with seminars/webinars and visits to trade fairs. Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role where required.

About You

  • You will possess GCSE's (or equivalent) in the subjects of English and Mathematics, minimum grade C.
  • Ability to travel both in the UK and overseas with valid driving licence and valid passport
  • You must be highly organised, enthusiastic and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • You should be competent in the use of Microsoft Office products, in particular MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Be able to accurately follow testing procedures and methods
  • You will need to demonstrate excellent time management skills and to possess a flexible approach to working being able to respond to changing deadlines and priorities
  • You will need to have a keen eye for detail and be methodical when making electronic entries onto systems and when completing paperwork
