Health & Safety Coordinator

Reporting to and taking day to day direction from The Group Programme and Health & Safety Manager. Coordinating the H&S workload and providing an escalation point to the team for issue resolution. Leading by example, you will promote a positive and motivating team environment, overseeing H&S processes and procedures, training and auditing for the West Group of Companies. You will be aware of, and contribute to company and departmental objectives, targets, and measurements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with the Programme and H&S Manager to lead and maintain all H&S policies and procedures by regular review of government legislation and guidance.
  • Provide H&S management advice and guidance to colleagues.
  • Ensure all Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, COSHH Assessments for all companies, equipment and chemicals are in date and regularly reviewed.
  • Partake in the monthly H&S Committee meetings for each company
  • Support Programme and H&S Manager with the completion of personal risk assessments for staff requiring additional support as highlighted at point of recruitment or following a period of ill health.
  • Provide H&S inductions for all new staff joining Group companies in Waterlooville and ensure inductions at other sites are completed in a timely manner.
  • Support the design, development and delivery of in-house H&S training for new recruits and regular refresher training and toolbox talks for all Group staff.
  • Ensure all staff H&S training is recorded/documented
  • Work with Facilities Manager to ensure all equipment is serviced and regulatory checks such as LOLER and LEV are completed.
  • Undertake regular workplace inspections and audits across the Group for compliance, liaising with various departments and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain an awareness of regulatory and ISO standards.

Required Job Skills

  • IOSH Managing Safely (essential)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (desirable)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 (desirable)
  • Knowledge and understanding of H&S regulations
  • Minimum of 2 years H&S experience in a similar role
  • Experience in carrying out safety management audits
  • Experience in conducting H&S training
  • Ability to travel across Hampshire & Devon
  • Driving license essential
