We are seeking a Specialist 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a KS2 pupil with ADHD and ASD needs. Initially based in a specialist setting, this role will evolve to support the child's transition into mainstream education, offering consistent 1:1 support throughout the process.
This rewarding opportunity is based in Headingley, Leeds. The successful candidate will have a pivotal role in helping the pupil transition back into mainstream education, where the goal is to ensure they can thrive and engage with their peers in a supportive environment.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to the pupil in a specialist setting, working closely with them to engage in learning and social activities.
- Assist in the transition between the specialist provision and mainstream school, ensuring the pupil is supported every step of the way.
- Implement strategies to help the pupil manage their ADHD/ASD symptoms, with a focus on recognising triggers and using de-escalation techniques to maintain calm.
- Support the child in managing interactions with peers and adjusting to a less structured, busier environment.
- Maintain firm boundaries while promoting a positive and nurturing atmosphere.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children with ADHD/ASD in a 1:1 or small group setting.
- A calm, patient approach, with excellent understanding of de-escalation and diversion strategies.
- Ability to follow and implement structured support plans while adapting to the needs of the pupil.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with the specialist and mainstream staff teams.
- A valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
