About the role
Our Regional Distribution centres supply our 198 cash and carry sites with all their products including Fresh, Frozen and Ambient stock. We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Hatfield Distribution Centre as a Class 1 Driver with shunting duties subject to business need.
The successful applicants will be required to work a minimum 45 hours per week, working any five from seven days on a variety of shift patterns, so there will be Saturday or Sunday working dependent on rotas. Weekend work is paid at a premium rate.
The hours of work will be between 06:00-18:00 or 18.00-06.00. Overtime is required on a regular basis for this role.
Ideally candidates should also have good customer-facing skills and it is essential to have a knowledge of tachograph rules and regulations.
All applicants must have their CPC to be considered for this role, however, fully funded CPC training hours are provided to maintain this.
Also applicants will not be considered if they have more than 6 points on their licence, ‘Careless Driving', prosecution for mobile phone use or drink driving or have failed to comply with ‘Construction of Use'.
Please note that all candidates will have to undertake a drug and alcohol test as part of the pre-employment tests.

Role Responsibility
The role will be split between driving and shunting as required. This will include bay movements of trailers for loading and offloading of trailers using a Terberg Shunt vehicle. Full training will be given where necessary.
You will also be responsible for maintaining the Warehouse load vehicle requirements with a timely flow of trailers to load and for keeping the de-kit area fed with trailers so that the recyclables can be baled and made ready for despatch.
You will liaise with the Transport Management Team and the Fleet Administrator to keep defected trailers out of service until fixed and have vehicles taken off the road for service and repair where required.
There will be occasions you would be responsible for safe delivery of stock to our 198 cash and carry stores (deliveries will typical be to the south of the country).
Ensuring all paperwork is completed after delivery.
That your vehicle is in good condition at the start and finish of your shift.
Working autonomously as well as part of the wider transport team.
You will need
- Class 1 Licence with at least 2 years driving a class 1 vehicle and must be CPC qualified
- Tail lift operation experience
- Driving a tug
- Yard and Bay management
- Multi-temperature site
- Excellent communications skills
- Responsibility for setting trailer temperature
- Scheduled vehicle maintenance management
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety
