Youth Worker

Posted by Merton College.

Student Services supports students at each stage of their journey from pre-entry to post exit. The department has a student orientated culture and puts students' needs at the heart of everything it does.

As our Youth Worker, you will work as a member of the team to contribute to a wide and varied programme, which will include co-leading and delivering a range of activities to students. You will set up and deliver a programme of Enrichment activities across the College to enrich the College community, whilst pro-actively building positive relationships with students.

You will play a key role in engaging with students around the campus in both a formal and informal basis, to ensure that students are attending lessons and that social spaces, corridors and other communal areas in the College are safe and welcoming and that students maintain reasonable standards of behaviour.

This is the perfect opportunity for someone who has experience of working with and delivering activities to young people, predominantly 16-18 years of age and from a variety of backgrounds. You'll understand the needs and issues surrounding them and the difficulties students face, and have experience of positively engaging with young people, working with them to improve behaviour, skills and confidence in challenging situations.

Qualified to Level 3 or above in an appropriate area (Youth and Community, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Health & Social Care or IAG), you will have experience of leading on the planning and delivery of enrichment activities and events to support and enhance the student experience and demonstrate the ability to deliver student workshops/presentations or tutorials to a diverse range of students. You will have experience of safeguarding practice/procedures/referral and be willing to achieve a Level 3 safeguarding qualification with the first 6 months of you commencing this role.

Please note that this post is funded for the 2024/25 academic year so the successful candidate would not be expected to commence in post prior to August 2024.

Closing date for the return of completed applications is 26th June 2024.
