The role

About Southwark:

We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark's residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.

At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities.? Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark's communities and the council's staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families in Southwark? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our dynamic Safeguarding and Family Support Service as a Family Support Officer. In this role, you will be part of an integrated team dedicated to promoting the well-being, social and emotional development, achievement, positive behaviour, and safety of children and young people.

As a Family Support Officer, you will:

  • Manage a diverse caseload: Utilise integrated tools and processes such as the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) and Team Around the Child (TAC) to support families with varying needs.
  • Provide expert guidance and support: Offer practical advice, tailored interventions, and continuous guidance to help families achieve positive outcomes.
  • Empower and support parents: Work collaboratively with parents to develop their skills, build their capacity, and facilitate smooth transitions for their children.
  • Coordinate with external agencies: Assist families in accessing and maintaining effective relationships with agencies including children's centres, educational institutions, health services, housing, and voluntary organisations.
  • Maintain high-quality records: Ensure all interactions and interventions are accurately documented, adhering to quality standards.

Your role will be pivotal in providing focused support to families, helping them navigate challenges and preventing the escalation of issues to statutory intervention levels.

About You

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional who:

  • Is a team player: You thrive in a collaborative environment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Communicates effectively: You have strong oral and written communication skills, able to articulate clearly and maintain detailed records and reports.
  • Is proactive and independent: You can work autonomously, managing your caseload efficiently while contributing to the team's collective goals.
  • Shares our vision: You are committed to working collaboratively with families, building on their strengths, and focusing on the needs of children.
  • Is adaptable and flexible: You are ready to work in a dynamic environment, adjusting to the diverse needs of the families you support.

Experience in family support and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of children and families are essential. If you are enthusiastic about this opportunity and want to contribute to a positive change in our community, we would love to hear from you.
