Controls Engineer

Zenith People are working with our client who are a Manufacturer based in the North-East and are looking to recruit a highly skilled, and innovative experienced Controls Engineer on a permanent basis. This role will be pivotal in designing and maintaining state-of-the-art hardware/software solutions for new equipment and ensuring the continuous improvement of our automated machinery already on site. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting our project management processes, driving operational excellence, and contributing to our commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all production equipment adheres to electrical safety standards
  • Software Development: Write and maintain software programs for PLCs, Servos, and HMI systems.
  • Technical Documentation: Generate accurate drawings and technical documents for equipment.
  • Supplier Collaboration**:** Liaise with external suppliers to guarantee the delivery of fit-for-purpose equipment.
  • Equipment Commissioning**:** Oversee the commissioning of equipment to meet agreed standards.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate effectively within the Engineering and Operations team.
  • Quality Improvement: Actively contribute to enhancing product quality and operational performance.
  • Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing process issues in collaboration with a team.
  • Supervision: Oversee the work of electricians and mechanical fitters.
  • Project Management: Lead projects to successful completion within planned timelines and present project status updates.
  • Source and purchase electrical control equipment as needed.

Additional Duties:

  • Be willing to work overtime as required.
  • Provide hands-on assistance to electricians when necessary.
  • Supervise other employees on the plant.
  • Travel to external equipment suppliers as part of the role.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications**:** Time Served Electrical Controls Engineer - Full Apprenticeship
  • Technical Expertise**:** Proficient in PLC programming, preferably with Allen Bradley and Omron. Experience in machine building and electrical circuitry design.
  • Project Management**:** Familiarity with project management tools like MS Project is desirable.
  • Professionalism**:** High level of professionalism with excellent communication skills.
  • Complex Project Handling: Ability to manage complex projects and resources efficiently.
  • Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work closely with others to achieve individual and plant objectives.
  • Vision Systems**:** Knowledge of machine vision systems is a plus, with training provided if necessary
