Temporary-Ongoing Role with Various Shift Times Available

Our client, a medical facility based in Canterbury, is currently looking for Hospital Porters to join their team on an ongoing basis. They will undertake a comprehensive range of general and departmental Portering duties to the required service delivery standards. There are various shifts available on a temporary-ongoing basis. This role will be paying £11.45 per hour on weekdays and £11.45 per hour on weekends. You will be working on a rota basis so you must be flexible with which days and times you can work.

Previous experience as a Porter is not essential as full training will be provided.

Responsibilities for the role of Porter

Porters play a crucial role in various aspects of hospital operations. Their primary responsibility involves efficiently transporting supplies within the facility to designated destinations. Additionally, they ensure that patients are appropriately positioned and timed in various areas. Different porter roles encompass specific tasks, such as maintaining outdoor spaces or addressing cold weather conditions by treating outdoor surfaces. The items porters handle within a hospital encompass a range of items, such as:

  • Hospital bed linens
  • Transporting patients using wheelchairs or trolleys
  • Handling patient samples, including blood samples
  • Managing waste, which might include bio-hazardous materials
  • Moving cylinders containing oxygen and other gases (e.g., anaesthetic gas)
  • Distributing parcels and mail
  • Transporting food and beverages
  • Showing utmost respect while moving deceased patients to the hospital mortuary
  • Porters might also be assigned cleaning duties within the hospital premises.
  • Some porters operate vehicles to navigate between different hospital sites.
  • As integral members of the estate's team, porters frequently engage with a diverse array of personnel, ranging from clinical professionals like nurses and laboratory staff to non-clinical individuals, including security personnel and housekeepers

Skills and Experience for the role of Porter

  • You must be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check unless you already have one and it is on the Update Service
  • We must be able to obtain references covering 3 years
  • The ability to communicate and work with patients and other members of staff and visitors to the hospital
