£23,000 - £27,500 per annum based on experience

Role Description:

The Building Support Assistant (BSA) will work under the guidance of the Technical Management team, technicians, and craftsmen, handling all aspects of engineering plant and equipment maintenance, both planned and reactive. You will ensure the smooth operation and safety of our facilities, playing a vital role in our commitment to excellence.

Key Role and Daily Tasks

  • Undertake planned maintenance and reactive repairs, using training programmes, work procedures, and operational manuals.
  • Record and log readings, carry out basic adjustments and repairs, and document activities on service sheets and work orders.
  • Perform ductwork cleaning, filter changing, lamp and tube replacement, and clean plant rooms and equipment as needed.
  • Work in high-risk and challenging areas, ensuring all safety measures are fully implemented.
  • Ensure tasks are completed or communicated, even if it requires working beyond designated hours.
  • Provide cover for BSA shift cover and holidays, and undertake roles such as Authorised Person, Skilled Person, or Competent Person as required.
  • Work in accordance with Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTMs) and other applicable legislation.
  • Undertake tasks such as Legionella remedial works, AHU filter changes, light fitting replacements, and low-risk controlled isolations.
  • Participate in planned preventative maintenance schemes and use the Computer Aid Facilities Management (CAFM) system for labour control.
  • Perform essential repair works and general maintenance activities as requested, and be on-call for emergency repairs.
  • Liaise with Senior Technicians and Site Engineers regarding plant or equipment failures and observations.
  • Assist with technical maintenance diagnostic fault finding and repair.
  • Escort contractors as required and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Ensure all health, safety, and welfare matters are addressed, including safe systems of work, training, and safety inspections.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure adherence to technical standards and legislation.
  • Manage own workload and support other Building Support Assistants.
  • Participate in the operation of planned preventative maintenance schemes and CAFM system.
  • Complete all necessary documentation for work orders, service sheets, and logbooks.
  • Operate within permit to work systems and notify of any deviations from regulations.
  • Use all relevant tools and equipment safely.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:

  • Recognised industry training (NVQ's - technical task specific) and health and safety awareness/certification.
  • Experience in a building services maintenance environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • IT skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a demanding environment.
