We're excited to be partnering with a highly respected engineering firm that is looking to appoint a Drawing Office Manager to lead their design team. Essential to Apply:

  • A degree in Engineering or a related field (HND/HNC candidates with substantial experience will also be considered).
  • Proven experience in managing a drawing or design office, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and a deep understanding of engineering standards and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.

The Role:

As the Drawing Office Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the drawing office, currently consisting of two draughtspersons, with the potential to expand in line with projected business growth over the next 2-3 years. You'll be a key player in managing and mentoring the team, ensuring that all design work meets the highest standards of quality and compliance.

This role is integral to the business, offering the chance to shape the strategic direction of the department and contribute to the broader company vision.

The ideal person will have a solid engineering background and strong leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Development:

Manage, mentor, and develop the drawing office team, ensuring they are motivated and equipped to meet both company and customer expectations.

Lead recruitment efforts and identify training opportunities to enhance team performance and support career development.

Technical Expertise and Compliance:

Provide technical guidance and oversight, ensuring that all designs comply with relevant industry standards such as WIMES, UKCA, and ATEX.

Maintain and update technical documentation, standardising design practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Project Management and Delivery:

Oversee the design and development of new products, as well as the enhancement of existing ones, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.

Collaborate closely with other departments, customers, and suppliers to deliver engineered solutions that meet or exceed expectations.

Strategic Planning and Contribution:

Play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the drawing office, contributing to business planning and the implementation of company strategies.

Set and monitor departmental objectives, aligning them with the overall goals of the business to drive growth and innovation.

IT and Systems Oversight:

Manage the IT systems and software utilised within the drawing office, ensuring that the team has the necessary tools and technology to perform their roles effectively.

Lead any digital transformation initiatives within the department to enhance productivity and streamline processes.
