The Credit Controller is responsible for administering the credit control function within the finance department at the company. This role involves ensuring the timely collection of outstanding debts, managing credit and collections processes, and minimizing credit risks to maintain a healthy cash flow and optimize financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chase outstanding debts from customers and monitor client accounts to address payment delays or discrepancies promptly.
  • Collaborate with matter partners to engage with customers, establish payment plans, negotiate payment terms, and resolve billing inquiries or disputes.
  • Monitor and manage credit control processes, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. Develop and implement strategies to minimize lateness or non-payment by clients.
  • Generate regular reports on accounts receivable, collections, and credit risk for management, highlighting areas of concern or improvement opportunities.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to credit control, proposing process enhancements or system improvements when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing excellent customer service and addressing queries or concerns related to credit matters.
  • Assist the finance team with other areas, including accounts payable and billing.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in managing credit and accounts receivables or in a similar credit management role.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport and effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Strong knowledge of credit control principles, practices, and regulations in the UK.
  • Proficiency in using financial software and credit management tools.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate financial information, perform risk assessments, and make informed credit decisions.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and good working knowledge of other Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory frameworks, such as consumer credit laws.
  • Familiarity with UK banking and credit regulations and customer segmentation.
