SEND Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our team and support students with a range of additional needs, including ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), ADHD, SpLD (Specific Learning Difficulties), MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties), SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties), SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), and other challenging behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND.
  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCO to deliver tailored interventions.
  • Support students with personal development, social interaction, and engagement in lessons.
  • Use PECS, visual aids, and other communication strategies to assist non-verbal students.
  • Manage challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques and a positive behaviour approach.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with students with SEND is essential.
  • A compassionate, patient, and flexible approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider support team.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or SEND-related qualification) are desirable but not essential.
