Location: The designated office base is Abbey House, Abingdon. The councils operate in a truly flexible, and hybrid way where the focus is on outcomes not where you work.

About the role and what we're looking for

The community safety officer is a key role in the community safety team, working with partners to support the South and Vale Community Safety Partnership (CSP) and keep our communities safe.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Lead on anti-social behaviour (ASB) case management
  • Lead on community safety projects that support the CSP's priorities (e.g. rural crime,

exploitation and serious violence, violence against women and girls)

  • Investigate and respond to time critical safeguarding concerns through partnership working to ensure residents are kept safe.
  • Co-ordinate CSP subgroups (including producing papers, minute taking, chairing meetings and monitoring delivery of actions).
  • Provide advice to council teams and partner agencies on wider community safety matters, such as crime prevention, serious violence and modern slavery
  • Attend external partnership meetings to represent the community safety team to share best practice and maximise joint working.
  • Respond to consultation papers as and when necessary.
  • Undertake such other projects and duties as may be required from time to time.

The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.

Your essential skills, knowledge and experience

  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • good report writing skills.
  • experience of project management
  • good IT skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and email.
  • ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • proven team working skills excellent interpersonal and communication skills - the ability to work with a wide variety or people
  • able to chair meetings
  • full driving licence and access to a vehicle

You will be required to live within a reasonable commuting distance to the districts. (Although the councils are offering hybrid working arrangements, due to the nature of this role living within a reasonable commuting distance of the districts is an essential requirement.)

Your essential qualifications

  • educated to A level or equivalent standard

If you have the following experience or qualifications – it's a bonus

  • an understanding of community safety work and legislation
  • experience of partnership working
  • experience of dealing with ASB cases
  • experience of problem solving
  • experience of community engagement

Work related requirements:

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies. Yes
