Payments Operations Manager

My client is a national wealth and investment management business. They are currently looking for an experience Payments Operations Manager in Blackpool to provide leadership and management to a team that ensures the day-to-day functions of their team are completed prior to deadlines and in line with legal, regulatory and company procedures.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Distribute workload amongst staff and ensure that work is completed to a high standard.
  • Instil good team ethics and demonstrate accountability for the teams' behaviours and performance. To identify market key issues, upcoming initiatives, tax treatments and regulatory changes that will impact the business.
  • Conduct annual and interim performance reviews including setting of performance goals, within the Firm's timescales.
  • Agree and monitor holiday, sickness, and any other form of absence from the office. Undertake return to work interviews when appropriate liaise with HR if required.
  • Encourage and develop colleagues through mentoring, training, coaching, supporting them in their individual plans to develop their knowledge and skills and helping them to remain competent to undertake their role. Share knowledge to the benefit of the team and/or wider business.
  • Monitor staff performance on an ongoing basis providing constructive feedback, recognising good performance and escalating concerns if necessary. Document and fulfil requirements of performance review process.
  • Ensure real-time escalation of any possible operational risks/incidents/errors/ to Head/Deputy Head of Operations.
  • Identify opportunities in streamlining work-flow and improve processing efficiency, including but not limited to automation, system development and enhancement.
  • Ensure the daily and monthly Income payments are paid correctly through the automated standing order process.
  • Review outgoing payments and add relevant payment information in accordance with the country's requirements into Avaloq when amended in SWIFT.
  • Ensure all payment requests are actioned with appropriate payment authority working with areas across the business.
  • Monitor payment queues throughout the day ensure all currency deadlines are met.
  • Authorise payments to custodian and ad-hoc payments according to deadlines.
  • Pay in all cheques received from clients/brokers.
  • Issue cheques when required.
  • Agree and process Foreign Exchange netting payments.
  • Check all deposit redemption monies due on a daily basis and run the automatic process to post relevant accounts.
  • Transfer any deposit monies held with various banks as requested.
  • Claim BACS payment when applicable.
  • Process BACS files when requested.
  • Daily Nostro reconciliations.
  • Ensure that quarterly Direct Debit mandate reconciliation is performed.

The Candidate:

  • Solid experience in wealth management or banking operations with people management experience.
  • Good understanding of banking and wealth management regulations across the UK and International jurisdictions of the Crown Dependencies
  • Ability to obtain a solid understanding of Payments and the wider business impact.
  • A detailed working knowledge of Avaloq.
  • Knowledge of SWIFT, IGT & BACS processes would be advantageous.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures escalating areas of concern or issue in a timely manner.
