Research Lead - Global Carbon Markets

We are looking for an experienced, motivated Research Lead to help build out our forecasting capacity and analysis of both the UK and Global Carbon markets.

The Energy Transition is going to be the defining story of the next few decades, and the global carbon markets - both compliance and voluntary - are already playing a key role in the race to hit Net Zero. We are looking to further expand our team in order to provide the critical market intelligence necessary for our clients to understand and navigate these new and expanding markets.

We are recognised by our peers, clients and the wider trading and financial community for providing industry-leading data, forecasts and analysis that informs the decision making of organisations around the world.

The successful candidate should be comfortable with understanding and handling commodities data and policy, as well as a deep interest and curiosity about environmental policy, energy or the carbon markets. Additional knowledge of low carbon technologies would be a further asset!

The successful candidate will have access to resources across different commodity groups and will work with colleagues across a wide array of different backgrounds, locations and expertise.

SOME OF THE DAILY TASKS YOU WILL PERFORM

  • Data analysis and modelling for both compliance and voluntary carbon markets, as well as associated commodities markets like power, natural gas and LNG.
  • Understand and model drivers for decarbonisation in energy and industry sectors.
  • Keep track of daily market developments in the UK and European carbon markets, and how those markets drive energy transition policy globally.
  • Monitor both pricing and policy and turn that data into relevant research for clients.
  • With the rest of the team, develop, maintain and contribute to the proprietary carbon market supply-and-demand and price forecast models and other quantitative tools.
  • Follow global policy developments in carbon markets and decarbonisation and work with the larger team to build a comprehensive picture of international carbon markets.
  • Take an active role in communicating with clients and media to discuss market developments, price movements, and forecasts.

WHAT DO WE NEED?

  • Master's Degree or an equivalent with a background in (environmental/energy) economics, business administration, finance, mathematics, engineering
  • Experience within the fields of energy or low carbon technologies is an advantage, but not a requirement
  • At least six years of relevant professional experience in one of the above subjects
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills as well as excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • High attention to detail, self-motivated, independent and with ability to initiate new research ideas
  • Basic programming experience in MATLAB, Python,
  • Excellent spoken and written English, Additional languages desirable
