Payroll Manager

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a dynamic and experienced Payroll Manager to join a dedicated faith-based Charity on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing the organisation's payroll functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely processing.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead and manage the payroll function, ensuring compliance with legislation and deadlines, and liaising with relevant departments
  • Create, update, and manage efficient work systems and internal controls to minimise errors and ensure accurate processing
  • Maintain high levels of quality and service in payroll processing, payment, reporting, and record-keeping
  • Encourage continuous improvement and solution-focused working methods
  • Provide high-quality advice on payroll matters, addressing queries and liaising with managers, staff, HR, Finance, and HMRC
  • Manage Auto-Enrolment and Pension Schemes, including reporting and staff communications
  • Serve as the in-house expert on iTrent, supporting users and maintaining system security
  • Escalate queries appropriately, ensuring informed and timely handover to relevant experts
  • Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Group Financial Controller or Head of Human Resources

Essential experience

  • CIPP Membersip (Qualified to Level 5 or equivalent)
  • Experience with iTrent payroll system
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements (PAYE, HMRC rules)
  • Proficiency in payroll-related calculations (parental leave, income tax, sickness pay, etc.)
  • Experience in complex reconciliations and handling HMRC queries
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to details
