Senior Section Leader

We are currently seeking an experienced senior section leader to join our clients team in Newton Aycliffe.

Job Type: 6 month fixed term assignment

Hours of Work: 07:00 to 15:00 Monday to Friday

Salary: Competitive

Our client is a world leader in Railway Rolling Stock assembly and manufacturing, the facility's activities use the latest manufacturing and computer analysis techniques, and a state-of-the-art paint plant

You will already possess skills in line with an understanding of lean manufacturing processes. Knowledge of manufacturing quality standards and have the ability to make effective decisions under pressure. You will have a willingness to work flexibly and drive team membership.

Duties will include but not limited to;

  • Deputising for the Production Manager on all issues with the exception of 'people issues'.

  • Supervision of a significant production area of the Rail Vehicle Manufacturing facility - covering employees including 12 section leaders and 22 Manufacturing Specialists.

  • Assist Production Manager in delivery of vehicles against the schedule including managing disruptions that may impact achievement of the target.

  • Deliver on the complex production decisions that arise daily including:-

  • Driving urgency around delivery of production schedules.

  • Addressing issues that jeopardise the delivery of the plan.

  • Reactive problem solving on a daily basis.

  • Influencing other functional areas where issues / decisions impact production.

  • Assisting the Production Manager in daily production meetings to ensure key actions impacting production plans are identified, allocated an owner and followed up. This involves working closely with peers in Assembly, supply chain, quality and warehouse functions.

  • 'Troubleshoot' issues posing threat to vehicle completion and passage to Test offering safe, quality conscious and timely solutions.

  • Delivery of the production plan through direct reporting teams.

  • Delivering the plan for the flow of work to maximise labour efficiency.

  • Take an active role in controlling robust corrective action and problem solving activity in a manner that meets the KPIs.

  • Offer guidance and advice to the Production Manager on all technical issues across their area.

  • Adherence to manufacturing and quality standards.

  • Own and execute a continuous improvement strategy across QCDM spectrum.

  • Maintain housekeeping level.

  • Contribute to building a culture of sharing good practice across the plant.

Further essential attributes will be;

  • Ability to strategically manage the production area for maximum effectiveness and deliver the production plan. Continually address challenges, own actions and follow up.
  • Ability to successfully manage / influence across peers and leaders to obtain the resources, materials and support required.
  • Management/Senior supervisory experience in production/manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable understanding of health and safety responsibilities in the production environment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • An understanding of lean manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing quality standards.
  • Effective communication skills - engages team and peer groups.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with staff at all levels.
  • Good presentation skills.
