Location - Darlington

Salary - Up to£15.10 per hour depending on experience

Hours - 37.5 hrs per week on a shift pattern

Contract until October

Our client delivers reliable power systems used in critical applications globally. Whether for data centres, on rugged job sites such as oil and gas fields or as backup power for our homes, our client's technologies are trusted around the world.

They are looking for four Welders to join their team on a contract basis working full-time to support the creation of a master production schedule and material plan needed to meet the master production schedule or independent customer demand.

Shift patterns:

Work will be split over 2 shifts:

  • Shift 1: Monday-Friday 6am - 2pm
  • Shift 2: Monday-Thursday 2pm - 11:30pm (Friday off)

Overtime is possible on Saturday and Sunday for those who are willing.

Responsibilities for the role of a Welder:

  • To fit and weld parts for exhaust systems to the company's quality standards
  • Working to weekly production schedules which may be demanding due to high volumes
  • Build the company work instructions to meet the required quality standard
  • Working within current Health and Safety legislation, published standards and codes and the site Health & Safety policies, procedures and rules
  • Be participative with all company improvement initiatives e.g. continuous improvement for leaner working processes and practices
  • Reporting product and facility faults, defects and omissions to the Production Supervisor
  • Be a proactive team player and be able to work within a larger team structure
  • Must be flexible in working with other Performance Cell functions if required e.g. materials, test, quality, and manufacturing engineering
  • Make judgement calls and work on your initiative within agreed guidelines of work instructions and site quality standards
  • Be active in assisting the working area in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient working area.
  • Be supportive by sharing knowledge with colleagues in support of achieving best practice

Skills and Experience for the Role of a Welder:

  • Will have demonstrable MIG or TIG welding experience (MIG is preferable)
  • Desirable ABC Certificate Level 1, 2 or 3 in Fabrication & Welding Practice. City & Guilds Award in Welding Skills; Certificate Level 1, 2 or 3 in Engineering. BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering with Fabrication & Welding; Mechanical Engineering. National Vocational Qualification Level 1, 2 or 3 Performing Engineering Operations; Fabrication & Welding Engineering; Welding with Platework; Fabrication & Welding
  • Or other qualifications that include MIG (metal inert gas), TIG (tungsten inert gas) or MMA/ARC (manual metal arc)
  • Or time-served Apprenticeship within a manufacturing environment Or demonstrable proven work experience in welding in a manufacturing environment
  • Will be able to weld to automotive quality standards (2-3mm) tolerances
  • Candidates from a general manufacturing background preferred
  • Ideally, experience in automotive would be a big plus but is not required
